Chronic absenteeism

Chronic absenteeism measures the percentage of students absent 15 days or more in the school year.

How was this calculated?

Chronic absenteeism is calculated by dividing the number of full school year students that were absent, excused or unexcused, for 15 or more days by the number of full school year students enrolled at a school.

Chronic absenteeism over time

What does this mean?

Due to COVID-19 school building shutdowns after the third quarter of the 2019-2020 school year, chronic absenteeism in 2019-2020 was based on only three quarters of the school year. Because of this, the 2019-2020 rate is not comparable to the rates of other school years.
